The Riedman Fish Hatchery at Powder Mills Park

The Powder Mills Park Fish Hatchery, stewarded by The Riedman Foundation, has supported regional fisheries, environmental education, and community engagement since 1933. Originally established through a partnership between the U.S. Bureau of Fisheries and Monroe County, the Hatchery raises brown and rainbow trout using responsible propagation practices that contribute to sustainable fisheries and healthy aquatic ecosystems.

Since 2003, The Riedman Foundation has provided 100% of the funding for staffing, maintenance, operations, and capital improvements. Open year-round, the Hatchery gives visitors the opportunity to observe approximately 15,000 brown and rainbow trout in various stages of development.

The Hatchery serves as an accessible educational resource for schools, families, and community groups, offering hands-on learning about fish biology, conservation, and water stewardship. Longstanding traditions—such as the annual trout derby—continue to strengthen the community’s connection to Powder Mills Park.

Be sure to bring some quarters to purchase fish food from our on-site dispensaries—feeding the trout is a visitor favorite!

Monday–Friday: 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
Saturday–Sunday: 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

The Hatchery grounds are open to the public during all park hours.
