Dads and Granddads can enjoy a vintage trolley ride...and do it for FREE when accompanied by a youth age 3 - 12 at the New York Museum of Transportation, Fathers Day Sunday, June 21. The Lambda Network at Kodak was the LGBTQ employee resource group that formed at the company’s Rochester headquarters in the early 1990s, when most queer workers were still closeted. Using never-before-shared archival documents, newspapers and magazines, photographs, video footage, and oral history interviews, Picturing Equality: The Lambda Network at Kodak explores how Lambda members changed Kodak’s corporate culture and benefit policies to be more LGBTQ inclusive

The New York Museum of Transportation invites all active-duty military and veterans to enjoy half-price admission on July 5, 2026, as we celebrate our nation's 250th birthday. Thank you for your service! Requirement: Please bring a military ID or a driver’s license with Veteran status.

Sunday, July 26, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.: Try your hand at operating a railroad velocipede on the tracks at the New York Museum of Transportation. The 1890s velocipede was once used on railroads by supervisors and track inspectors. Under careful supervision, you take a seat, grab the handles, and row your way up the line. Adults and kids are welcome! It's just like rowing a boat! Trolley rides too!

Scale models and the enthusiasts who build them will be on hand Sunday August 2, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., when the New York Museum of Transportation hosts members of the ROC City Scale Modelers and the Genesee & Ontario Model-N-Gineers. The work on display will include planes, ships, military armor, autos, and even space and science fiction. The family friendly museum admission, including the model show, and a ride on a vintage trolley car is $12 adults, $10 seniors 65+, $6 youths age 3 - 12.

Did you know? All kids 12 and under will receive free admission to the Museum on Thursdays in August. We’ll offer a wide array of activities in the Historic Village for kids to enjoy, including historic games on the Village Square, ice cream making, new farm animal-themed treats in the D.B. Munger Confectionery, and more.

It's a LEGO® experience for all age groups! Visitors can build their own limited edition miniature of the museum's 1926 International stake body truck. Creative works by members of the Rochester LEGO Users Group will be on display as well. It's all happening Sunday, August 16, 2026.  Open to ages 8 and older. Visitors to the museum will delight to barrel organ music played by several “organ grinders” and their unique instruments Sunday August 30. Enthusiasts of this early form of musical entertainment will be cranking out tunes from a variety of vintage wind instruments, bringing back the sights and sounds from more than a century ago. The musical entertainment and 2-mile round trip trolley rides are included with admission.

Right next door to the Rush Fall Festival, Saturday, September 19, the New York Museum of Transportation and the Rochester & Genesee Valley Railroad Museum will be offering a rare treat: ride a vintage trolley car and transfer to a real freight train for a rare and unique experience. The only place in the country with two rail museums connected by a ride! Trolleys depart throughout the day, and the fare is $15 per person, free to kids age 4 and under.

The Genesee Chapter of the Society for the Preservation and Appreciation of Antique Motorized Fire Apparatus in America (SPAAMFAA) will have their restored firefighting equipment on display for visitors to enjoy Sunday September 20. Resplendent in bright red paint and polished metal work, these vintage vehicles will delight visitors and bring back memories of times past. Discover the difference between a “fire truck” and a “fire engine,” and find out why firemen wear red suspenders!

A great way for families to enjoy the colors of an upstate autumn is from the windows of a vintage electric trolley car at the New York Museum of Transportation in Rush, NY. Rides operate Sundays only, October 4, 11, 25 and are included free with admission to the museum. The 20-minute rides depart at 11:30, 12:30, 1:30, 2:30 and 3:30. The museum is open 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. No reservations needed.
