Although we don't have the higher mountains of the east, there is plenty of opportunity for great skiing... and of course, when many people think of western New York, they think winter! We in the nation's Snow Belt are justifiably proud of all of the wonderful opportunities for active family fun available in winter. Below, you'll find links to all of the great places to ski within driving distance of Rochester and Buffalo.

Bristol Mountain is the premier family ski area located in the Western Finger Lakes Region of Upstate New York. Thirty-five trails and 3km of Nordic terrain are fun for every level of snowsports enthusiast. Night time skiing and riding plus state of the art snowmaking is the icing on the cake. New for the 2015-16 Season: New Intermediate level trail. The VIP Gold Learn to Ski Program now includes ages 13 and older. This four time Learn to Ski Program for first time skiers includes a FREE pair of skis. We’ve also added Jr VIP Gold Learn to Ski Camps (four days) for ages 8-12 which include a FREE pair of Elan skis for each participant. Swain Resort and Monroe County have once again teamed up at Powder Mills and Northampton Parks to bring you holiday camps and classes dedicated to teaching you and your children how to ski or board. Sign up for our popular 3-day Christmas or Presidents camps, or register for one of our weekly programs designed to get our child off of the iPad and out onto the slopes all for as low as $29 per visit.

It's easy to start cross-country skiing! For your first outing, choose someplace with level ground and groomed or well-used paths. Many cross country skiing areas offer beginner day trips, which are ideal.
