RocVentures is Rochester’s longest operating indoor climbing gym, offering top roping, bouldering, lead climbing, and ropes challenges. With rental gear and starter classes for beginners, affordable memberships for regulars, and special events for our robust community, RocVentures is a space for climbers of all levels.

Details

Our Learn to Climb class series teaches climbers the fundamentals of climbing over the course of four classes. Classes do not need to be taken in any order and can be taken as many times as wanted!

 

The four class topics are:

 
  • Hold Usage & Body Movement

  • Footwork & Balance

  • Training Fundamentals

  • Injury Prevention & Antagonistic Training

 

We recommend that all participants take our Learn to Top Rope class before taking any of these classes, but it is not mandatory!

 
  • You must be at least 15 years old to take this class.

  • Class fee includes a day pass and equipment rentals.

  • Please arrive 15 minutes early to get checked in and ready.

Learn to Top Rope

Our Learn to Top Rope class teaches climbers how to properly top rope and belay in our facility. For those who have never belayed before—or maybe it's just been a while—this class will teach you the basics and get you Belay Certified at RocVentures so you can safely enjoy top rope climbing in our gym.

 

This class takes up to 45 minutes and covers the following topics:

 
  • Facility, Auto Belay & Bouldering Orientation

  • Belaying using the PBUS method

  • Commands and Safety Checks

  • Grading and Movement Fundamentals

 

​If you already know how to belay, you do not need to take this class; experienced belayers can test out by demonstrating the required skills to a staff member. If you have not belayed within 12 months we recommend taking the class again as a refresher.

 
  • You must be at least 13 years old to take this class.

  • For groups larger then 4 please contact us.

  • Class fee does not include a day pass or equipment rentals.

  • Please arrive 15 minutes early to get checked in and ready.
