Please help us keep this calendar up to date! If this activity is sold out, canceled, or otherwise needs alteration, email mindy@kidsoutandabout.com so we can update it immediately. If you have a question about the activity itself, please contact the organization administrator listed below.
Immerse yourself in a world of magic as Writers & Books’ three-story building transforms into the Academy for Young Magicals! You’ll be sorted into houses (Ravenclaw, Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, or Slytherin), craft your own wand, take a magical field trip into the Muggle world, and write for the school’s daily newspaper. Each day brings classes in enchanting subjects such as Herbology, Divination, History of Magic, Defense Against the Dark Arts, Care of Magical Creatures, and Potions. Hands-on projects and creative writing exercises will fuel your imagination and help you bring your magical world to life.
Spoiler Alert: Material from all seven Harry Potter books/movies will be covered throughout the week.
Note: Writers & Books neither condones nor agrees with J.K. Rowling’s transphobic social and political views. Our faculty, staff, and students celebrate the magic of the Harry Potter series as a shared cultural touchstone—reclaiming these stories through critical and creative exploration while also introducing participants to other magical texts. Trans Lives Matter.
Teaching Artist(s): may include David/DJ Broadnax, Emma Callahan, Tracy Cretelle, Rylie Day-Walker, Chris Fanning, Karen Graham, Tracy Nemecek, Esther Rogers-Baker, Alexa Scott-Flaherty, Katherine Varga
