Jessica DeGroote Nelson is the Director of Technology and Strategy at Optimax. She joined the company in 2007 after graduating from The Institute of Optics at the University of Rochester with a Bachelors, Masters and Ph.D. in Optics. She is also currently an adjunct faculty member at The Institute of Optics, teaching an undergraduate and graduate course on Optical Fabrication Materials and Testing. Jessica also holds an Executive MBA from the Simon School at the University of Rochester.
Jessica is an active member and presenter with the Optical Society of America SPIE, American Ceramic Society, the American Society of Precision Engineers, and Optics and Electro Optics Standard Council. She is also active in the local section of the Optical Society of America – Rochester Section, where she served as president and currently leads educational outreach activities.
Currently Jessica is serving as an associate editor for SPIE’s Optical Engineering journal and an editor of SPIE’s Tutorial Text series. In addition, she is chair of several upcoming conferences in 2019 including SPIE Optifab, OSA’s Optical Fabrication and Testing, and OSA’s Freeform.
