The Rochester Japanese School is a Japanese language supplementary school which provides children compulsory education instruction in Japanese and the opportunity to be exposed to Japanese culture. At this time, there are 4 teachers and 3 teaching assistants offering 1st to 9th grade classes in Japanese language and mathematics. The primary goal of the school is to help school-aged children in upstate New York (from Japanese as well as Japanese-American / American families) maintain and improve their Japanese language and mathematical skills. However, our school’s ultimate mission is much broader. We strive to enhance our students’ skills and experiences necessary to become global citizens capable of not only serving as a bridge between Japan and the U.S.A., but also to contribute to the globalizing world. Throughout the year, in addition to our regular curriculum, our school offers opportunities to experience Japanese culture and social customs for students and any interested individuals in the community.
We teach Japanese language and math for grades 1-9 on Saturdays, 41 weeks/year.
We will offer an introductory Japanese class to any children ages 5-18 (and if interested, accompanying parent/parents). No Japanese speaking ability will be required.
