A KOAA reader favorite, TYKEs (Theatre Young Kids Enjoy) launches its 20th season with the regional premier of this brand new show – The Eric Carle Story Show – based on four books by the internationally-renowned author-illustrator Eric Carle. Nominated for multiple awards including Best New Play, Best Production and Best Direction, the show features 45 handcrafted puppets operated by world-class puppeteers. The performances are one weekend only – Saturday and Sunday, November 9 and 10! Perfect for kids ages 2 and up. Mark Davis Scatterday leads the storied Eastman Wind Ensemble in Joseph Schwanter’s “From A Dark Millenium,” John Mackey’s symphony for band “Wine-Dark Sea,” and Joel Puckett’s “15th Night of the Moon,” alongside trumpet soloist Dovas Lietuvninkas ’16E. From Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright August Wilson comes this autobiographical one-actor play chronicling Wilson’s life as a Black artist in the Hill District in Pittsburgh. Through stories about his first jobs, first loves, and experiences with racism, we go deep into the life of one of the most celebrated writers of the 20th century, from his roots to the completion of his history-making American Century Cycle, his ten-play series showcasing Black experience from across the twentieth century.
