Pneumococcal infections in toddlers can be dangerous because their immune systems are still maturing, making them vulnerable to serious conditions such as pneumonia, meningitis, and bacteremia. These infections can cause severe complications, including long-term neurological damage, hearing loss, and in some cases, can be life-threatening. Vaccination is essential to protect toddlers from these potentially severe outcomes.
The study aims to see how well an investigational pneumonia vaccine works at protecting toddlers aged 12 to 15 months. The investigational vaccine is designed to give extra protection against Streptococcus pneumoniae, a bacterium that often causes ear infections, pneumonia, sinus infections, and more serious illnesses like meningitis and sepsis.
In this study there is 0% chance of placebo, meaning every participant is getting some active pneumococcal vaccination. There is also blood work required for this study. There is no cost for participating in this study and reimbursement may be provided.
Reimbursement:
- $100 per office visit
- $50 per scheduled phone call visit
