The Ideal Day Camp Experience in Perinton, NY

(Updated March, 2018)

Imagine a family-run summer camp right here in the greater Rochester area that has been in business 35 years. It's a camp in which activities stress self-betterment and cooperation rather than competitiveness and where children come first.  Where the camp motto "Campers First" is demonstrated every day through a camper-centered philosophy, and where kids leave smiling every day and return eagerly year after year.  All these things add up to the great experience that is Creative Themes.

Creative Themes Day Camp, run by Denise Bellavia and her father, Robert Remis, is one of the best-kept summer secrets in Western New York. Thousands of kids have spent their summers participating in all of the tradtional summer sleep-away camp activities, but right here in the heart of Rochester, without having to sleep over!  Fishing, canoeing, swimming, archery, camp songs, arts and crafts, and lots of outdoor play are all part of the program.

Set on 25 acres in East Rochester in the town of Perinton, Creative Themes' location at the confluence of Irondequoit Creek and Thomas Creek makes it ideal for summer adventurers from preschool through high school. This unique setting creates a sense of magic for outdoor play for both campers and adults!

Kids and counselors alike adore Creative Themes. Of the 55 staff members, 30 have been campers at some point in the past, and 85% of counselors return the following year. The staff works hard to ensure that the Creative Themes experience is one that kids will remember for years to come. Each week immerses the campers in a new theme, combining indoor and outdoor activities to interest and excite the body, mind, and spirit.

CTkayaking.jpgThe Camp Director, Denise Bellavia, has been involved with Creative Themes for much of her life. During the past 35 years, she has served in the capacities of camper, Leader-in-Training, Counselor-in-Training, and Counselor. Not only is she the Camp Director, but also the Admissions Coordinator and Health Director. Denise, who has a degree in child development, also teaches first aid and CPR.

The staff at Creative Themes is committed to creating a place where kids can have a creative outdoor experience for years to come. They want to continue to embody the camp motto, "Campers First." As Denise says, " We are humbled to have been able to have been a  part of so many children's lives for the past 35 years. It is gratifying when we see them as the great young adults they have become. We are excited to continue camp for future generations."
