Operating in Upstate New York, Wildlife Educators Coalition was founded in January of 2009. Our coalition consists of a number of exotic animal owners and handlers who have been working in this field for some years. We are a certified independent Public Charity with 501 (c) 3 certification (ID #31954).
Mission Statement: We exist to introduce children of all ages to the wonders of the natural world. Our ambassadors educate and entertain by sharing the personal experiences they have had caring for our various exotic animals. Our belief is that Wildlife Is the Heartbeat of the Earth.
Currently, we have about 60 different species and over 200 individual animals in our care. Programs include introductions to our animals, sharing their personal history and some of the funny and/or touching experiences we have had with them. We talk about their native habitat, diets, behaviors and status.
We offer a range of venues from a large, varied exhibit like this festival to a small, detailed presentation of one animal. In 2016 we performed at 129 programs including two shows at the Fringe Festival. 65 of these programs were held for underserviced students in the city of Rochester. Our school programs fulfill many of New York State’s Educational Standards in Science.
In addition to our core members, we work with various performance artists, who add the elements of Arts and Literature. Their programs are built on legends and stories from around the world.
