Slam Poetry is an art form where performance is combined with the riveting wonderment of language. It is used to convey our personal experiences, speak out against social injustices, or to simply share something uplifting, funny, and lighthearted.

Slam Poetry is an art form where performance is combined with the riveting wonderment of language.  It is used to convey our personal experiences, speak out against social injustices, or to simply share something uplifting, funny, and lighthearted. You will study the works of traditional and contemporary poetry that will help inform and strengthen your own writing. In this class, you will be provided your own personal “slam kit” to bring your words from page to stage.  We only require two prerequisites for all participants:  Open mind. Open heart.  The world is eager to hear you! “A lot of people resist transition and therefore never allow themselves to enjoy who they are. Embrace the change, no matter what it is; once you do, you can learn about the new world you’re in and take advantage of it.” – Nikki Giovanni
