Explore the Outdoors with Trail Trekkers Nature Camp
Join American Seekers Academy’s Trail Trekkers Nature Camp for an enriching summer adventure at Mendon Ponds and Black Creek in the Greater Rochester Area. Led by Alyssa Rose, a certified Program Leader with a decade of experience as a naturalist, hike leader, and camp manager at Genesee Country Village & Museum, this camp offers children ages 4+ a unique blend of hands-on exploration and classical education. With her NYS Program Leader Certification and training in First Aid, CPR, and Water Safety, Alyssa ensures a safe, engaging environment that sparks curiosity and fosters a lifelong love for nature.
A Journey Through Nature
Designed for homeschool families, this 3-week camp (2–3 days per week) takes campers to new locations each week, with distinct learning objectives to deepen their understanding of the natural world. From kindergarteners to high schoolers, students will participate in activities tailored to their age and interests, including:
- Creek Exploration: Discover aquatic ecosystems by wading in streams and observing wildlife.
- Birdwatching: Spot and identify local birds using binoculars and guided observation.
- Insect Netting: Capture and study insects to explore their ecological roles.
- Plant Studies: Investigate native plants, their uses, and their importance to the environment.
- Nature Journaling: Record observations through sketches and notes, enhancing critical thinking.
- Nature Crafts: Create art with foraged materials, like bead animals or bird feeders.
- Safe Foraging: Identify edible plants under expert supervision.
- Educational Games & Scavenger Hunts: Engage in fun, inquiry-based activities that reinforce learning.
Each session combines hands-on exploration, observation, and arts & crafts to cater to diverse learning styles, aligning with ASA’s commitment to holistic, virtue-driven education.
Camp Schedule & Details
Trail Trekkers Nature Camp runs Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM, offering a 4-hour immersive experience perfect for creek explorations and multiple activities with a snack break. Choose from two sessions:
- August Session: August 4–15, 2025
- Price: $350 per session for 10–15 students
- Adult Supervision: At least 1 adult per 5 children is recommended, with flexibility based on group needs.
Locations include Mendon Ponds and Black Creek, with possible visits to Ganargua Creek Meadow Preserve, Bullis Park, or Aqueduct Park for varied experiences like wetland trails, fishing, and pavilion-based crafts.
