Jam out at Fiddle Camp! Open up the world of American folk music with Kanack's amazing guest faculty from across the Northeast and dive into a variety of styles including New England, Irish, Old Time, Quebecois, and more! All instruments and ages welcome!

Fiddle Camp at Kanack is back! Explore folk music at its finest with our amazing guest faculty who bring a wealth of knowledge and fun for a variety of styles, including New England, Celtic, and Old Time! This camp runs from August 11-15, 2025 and includes a special performance opportunity on August 16.

There is no better place to jump start your folk music learning! We welcome all ages! Students should have some foundational skills first: past Etude in Suzuki Book 1 or NYSSMA level 2 solo level.

Camp Faculty 

Daphne Pickens (Fiddle, Cello)  // With strong roots in folk and classical styles and in-demand as a fiddler, Daphne has been teaching since 2012 and holds degrees from Oberlin Conservatory and the Eastman School of Music. She currently performs with The Crooked North and Birch Trio around Rochester and on tour throughout the northeast at festivals, contra dances, and house concerts. Daphne is also an avid composer, arranger, and visual artist whose album credits include her 2013 duo album To Zamir with Casey Murray and compositions and session recording for Great Bear Trio's 2016 Magic Fantasy Dream Dance.

Casey Murray (Cello, Guitar, Banjo) // Boston-based Casey Murray is a musical tour-de-force who holds a degree from the Berklee College of Music and has worked with leading folk musicians of all stripes including Natalie Haas, Bruce Molsky, Darol Anger, Joe K. Walsh, Mike Block, Mairi Chaimbeul, Eugene Friesen, and Patrice Jackson-Tilghman. "Casey Murray is one of the most promising folk cellists of the current generation. With a rhythmic drive that is second to none, they are a great asset to any musical group they are part of, also showcasing their skills as a stellar composer, arranger and multi-instrumentalist." -Natalie Haas

Molly Tucker (Fiddle) // Boston-based graduate of Oberlin Conservatory and an engaging educator, Molly Tucker is frequently found in dance halls, festivals, and listening rooms across New England, including Boston's premiere folk venue Club Passim and Festival Trad Montréal, delighting audiences and dancers alike with her infectious energy and groove. She brings this wealth of experience into her daily teaching. Molly and Casey debuted their album After the Sky Weeps in April 2022.

Tim Ball (Fiddle, Guitar) // Finger Lakes fiddler Tim Ball is a talented educator whose groovy and passionate playing has been heard all over upstate New York at festivals and contra dances. Tim's album credits include the 2015 album Life of Their Own: Fiddle Tunes from New England, Ireland, and Beyond with Stephanie Orzechowski, Meeting Place from 2019 with Arise & Go, and his very own 2022 album Upstate Crossroads, which placed No. 1 album on the Folk Alliance International Chart in January 2023, and praised as "timeless and infectious."
