Stages (A Magical Journey Thru Stages)


STAGES Mission: A Magical Journey Thru Stages is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that provides quality youth theater experiences and opportunities in a supportive, fun, nurturing environment. Youth perform high-quality plays and musicals that delight audiences, are educated in theater arts, benefit local charities and foster personal and professional growth.
Performances are held throughout the school year; performers in Grades 6 - 12 audition for roles, while children in Grades 2 - 5 are accepted on a first come, first served basis. (Upcoming auditions are listed below under "Events.") Summer camps are open to all levels of experience on a first come, first served basis for Grades 1 - 12, with registrations accepted starting late winter. Stages' Open Mic Nights, Stages of the Game Improv Troupe, First Stage Skills Class and Theatre Tech Workshops are just a few of the other programs offered.

Scene Study from The Elves and the Shoemaker Nov 3 - Dec 15, Tues, 4:30 - 5:30pm (No class Thanksgiving week) Directed by Donnell Adler Tuition: $125 THE STORY: The Elves and the Shoemaker illustrates lovable, elfin versions of the old familiar fairy tale. Elves help an old shoemaker who is on his last piece of leather, by making beautiful shoes after he goes to bed. They return the next day to see their success but there is more to the story. Each sacrifices a treasure to provide a gift for the other but, in so doing, they work at almost tragically funny cross-purposes. This is a play about young love and the value of giving. They're beginning to smell, and they seem to have an odd taste for human flesh... yup, they've turned into zombies. With the big Homecoming game approaching, Head Zombie-Cheerleader Peaches organizes her undead followers to plan a feast on the rest of the school. It's up to the Drama Geeks to use their gift for dramatic flair to slay their rivals. Can a ragtag band of over-dramatic misfits defeat the zombies -- and save the world -- before it's too late? And only one man can stop this evil mastermind from changing the fate of the world—Sherlock Holmes. In this witty, fast-paced and wildly inventive adventure, Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson must travel from London in 1921 to Berlin in 1939 to stop Moriarty from changing the outcome of history. With the help of H.G. Wells, his delightful wife, Jane, and two Albert Einsteins, Holmes and Watson pursue Moriarty through time. Theater Middle School |

When the odds are this absurdly bleak, it seems certain that only the main character will make it out alive -- but first the contestants must decide who the main character is. The short plays are almost all comedies (or comedy-dramas), focusing mainly on language and wordplay, existentialist perspectives on life and meaning, as well as the complications involved in romantic relationships.
