THE MARVELOUS MARTHA
Tuesday, June 21 | Doors Open at 6:30pm, screening begins at 7pm
The Marvelous Martha is a documentary capturing how Martha Matilda Harper, forgotten immigrant Rochester business genius, succeeded with the help of the Rochester community and Susan B. Anthony.
Harper's story is an inspirational tale of how one individual can overcome the odds and make use of hardships to create a legacy that touches generations. Discover how Harper freed herself after 25 years of servitude. In this stellar documentary, learn how she capitalized on that servitude and her Rapunzel-like hair to launch the first modern retail chain of over 500 beauty shops around the world!
This is an event you won't want to miss, with a Q&A at the end where you can ask questions and hear why Plitt pursued the story as well as how she was helped by dedicated Harperites and families.
About the Author:
Jane Plitt has spent her lifetime advocating for equality. Her pursuit of the buried Harper story resonated deeply as an award-winning Rochester businesswoman, National NOW’s first Executive Director, and a Visiting Scholar at the University of Rochester.
As a result of Plitt’s efforts, Harper has been inducted into the National Women’s Hall of Fame, American Business Hall of Fame, was acknowledged as shaper of America, and a focus for a Ted talk.
