Preschoolers and their adult will be able to make their own snacks by following simple instructions. Each week will center around an age-appropriate theme. We will also read a story, make 2-3 crafts, explore sensory materials and play games.

Each week centers around a different theme.  Themes and recipes will include: Construction (build your own pretzel), Music (energy balls), Monster (deviled egg faces) and a surprise theme.

We begin class on the striped blanket. I read a book to the group and describe the day's topic. Often this time is interactive, including the felt board or manipulatives to keep the children engaged and to add more understanding to the story. 

In "Kids in the Kitchen" we will then wash and work together to create a child friendly snack. We will mix and measure, and discuss all kinds of new vocabulary. Some favorites have been: fried snowflakes, pizza muffins, baked pretzels, energy balls and bear cookies. Then we move on to center time

 Each class will have 5-7 stations. There are no pre-cut pieces or models for kids to follow. I encourage the children to use their imagination and problem solving skills to create, while guiding the adults through various ways to engage the child. Some projects will be suitable to take home, others will be process art. 

There are also always sensory activities and manipulatives that accompany the theme. Many are hand made so that all of the projects work together. 

Kids and their adult are free to work their way through these stations at their own pace, while I will offer new ideas and ways to explore.

The last portion of the class is spent socializing and enjoying our snack together.  

The day after class an e-mail is sent home listing any book, recipe, or idea to extend the learning at home.
