The Jungle Book - a show in a week with Missoula Children's Theatre at TYKEs Theatre

Aspiring young thespians can enjoy the epic adventure in two ways: as an audience member or as a performer! Fabulous on-stage roles for kids in Kindergarten and up in this full-scale musical complete with sets, props and costumes! No prior acting experience necessary.
TYKEs is delighted to once again partner with Missoula Children’s Theatre for our 21st show-in-a-week experience. Participants rehearse Monday through Friday, March 23 to 27, 2026 and perform The Junge Book live on stage in the Hart Theater at the JCC on Saturday, March 28. We’ll meet young Mowgli, who is adopted by wolves, taught by a bear, befriended by a panther and chased by a tiger as he explores what it means to be human and learns a lesson from the brave mongoose Rikki-Tikki-Tavi. Original music and rollicking humor give new life to the classic tale by Rudyard Kipling.
Missoula Children’s Theatre has been touring all over the world for more than 50 years and comes to town with everything needed to put on a play—except the cast. Children spend the week learning lines, songs and choreography for this full-length musical.

About the performances
There are two performances on Saturday, March 28 in the Hart Theater at the JCC – 1 pm and 3:30pm. All children perform in both shows. The production will also be recorded and available to families.
About rehearsals
Naturally, kids are eager to find out what role they’ll play in the performance. We’ll be conducting a fun, no-pressure acting exercise on Monday, March 23 to match each child with a role that best suits him or her. Every child will receive a role. By 6pm on Monday, all children will know their roles and the exact rehearsal schedule in writing for each particular role.
Daily rehearsals are divided into two sections: one rehearsal from 4 to 6pm, then a half-hour break, then a second session from 6:30 to 8:30pm. Depending on each child’s role, they will attend one or both rehearsal sessions during any given day. For instance, a child may be asked to attend only from 4 to 6pm, or only from 6:30 to 8:30pm. For the larger roles (usually performed by the oldest children), kids may be with us the entire time, from 4 to 8:30pm, with a dinner break from 6 to 6:30pm. The youngest kids – ages 5 to 7 – are typically with us from 4 to 6pm.
