Irish Children's Program Information Meeting

*The event has already taken place on this date: Mon, 01/27/2020
Interested in learning about hosting a 10-14 yr old child from Belfast this July? Come to this informational meeting to hear about a unique, multi-cultural experience for your family. The ICP looks for families with children ages 9-15 years old but host families do come in many different varieties. From singles, married couples, to empty-nesters, all are welcome. The one thing hosts have in common is a warm and welcoming spirit to treat these children as a member of the family.

Please help us keep this calendar up to date! If this activity is sold out, canceled, or otherwise needs alteration, email mindy@kidsoutandabout.com so we can update it immediately. If you have a question about the activity itself, please contact the organization administrator listed below.

The Irish Children's Program of Rochester offers families unforgettable experiences and memories. We provide a unique opportunity to introduce children to a different culture. Host children and their Belfast visitors compare and discover shared experiences and the similarities they have even though they live in different countries that are thousands of miles and an ocean apart.

Since our creation in 1982, The Irish Children's Program of Rochester has sponsored the visitation of an equal number of Catholic and Protestant children from Belfast, Northern Ireland to the greater Rochester area each July. Our mission is simple: The Irish Children's Program of Rochester is an ecumenical, non-profit, non-political organization whose goal, simply stated is to "Promote Peace through Understanding". We hope to accomplish this by providing the children of Belfast, Northern Ireland and Rochester, New York, the opportunity to meet, interact, build friendships, and further understand each as equal human beings in the more neutral environment of Rochester each July. Our program has touched the lives of generations of Northern Irish children and their American host families. The bonds that are made between the two last a lifetime and provide the seeds for more tolerant generations to come.

"It was one of the best experiences of my life. It was also one of the best experiences of our Irish child as well, and I know that because 28 years later, as adults, we are not only still in touch, but close friends. She came back over for my wedding and we visited her a few years ago and met her family.  Our lives are forever connected by that one summer."
