For over a decade, the High Falls Women's Film Festival has been proud to host special encores of the annual Rochester International Children’s Film Festival at a FREE screening during the Festival. This year’s collection includes films that artistically inspire imagination and thoughtful problem solving in children. Appropriate for pre-school, elementary, and kids at heart!

The High Falls Women's Film Festival is proud to host a FREE special screening of the Rochester International Children’s Film Festival, featuring: 

 

Ants  (Germany, 2018, 2D/ToonBoom, 3:37 minutes) Directed by Julia Ocker

The ants are working together perfectly, thanks to their rather strict team leader with a whistle. But when one ant decides to have a little fun, things get a little crazy!

 

Land without Evil  (Hungary/Argentina, 2017, Stop motion/Cut-out/Mixed technique, 3:50 minutes)  Directed by Katalin Egely

Based on Guaraní mythology (Tierra sin mal), this beautiful film set to world music shows a vision of paradise on earth where all creatures live in harmony and unity.

 

Learning Through Play, and “The Making Of…”  (US, 2019, Stop Motion, 4 minutes)  Directed by Dave Puls, Animatus Studio. Instructors: Fredrick Armstrong, Mike Boas, Nkiru Sewell. Animated by K’Mya Copeland, Janiyla Dates, Ja’Nylia Diaz, Ko’Zier Ellison, Cynthia Francis, Tyrese Henry, Norma Higgins, Sun’Nari Patterson, Arieanna Watson. Produced by the Rochester International Children’s Film Festival

In this charming animated short made by children from Rochester’s School #8/Maplewood YMCA Afterschool Program, kids share why play is so important. Followed by a behind-the-scenes look at the making of the film.

 

The Pig on the Hill  (US/Serbia, 2018, 3D Computer, 5:53 minutes)  Directed by Jamy Wheless & John Helms  Based on the book "The Pig on the Hill" by John Kelly and narrated by Pierce Brosnan.

Pig lives a quiet, orderly life alone on a hill, until one day a free-spirited and energetic Duck decides to move in next door. Will Pig find a way to get rid of Duck, or will Duck turn out to be the friend he’s always needed?

 

Sam's Dream  (France, 2018, 2D computer/TV Paint, 7:18 minutes)  Directed by Nölwenn Roberts 

One spring morning, Sam the Mouse decides to make his dream come true, despite the rules of gravity and the disbelief of the other animals of the forest.

 

Two Balloons  (US, 2017, Stop Motion, 9:08 minutes) Directed by Mark Smith

In this dreamy adventure, two lemurs spot each other while navigating their handmade dirigibles up in the clouds. When they try to make contact, a terrible storm intervenes. Will they find a way to save themselves, and each other?

 

Two Trams (Russia, 2017, Puppet Animation, 9:23 minutes) Directed by Svetlana Andrianova

Each day, the young tram makes its rounds with the older tram along the network of streets. But one day his old teacher is missing – and the young tram searches feverishly around the whole city. Will they get to enjoy a last ride together?

 

Tyrannosaurus Funk  (US, 2017, 3D Animation, 4:10 minutes)  Directed by Sandra Boynton, Sung by Samuel L. Jackson

A group of T. Rex dinosaurs sing and stomp their way through this delightful, must-get-up-and-dance short by the well-known children’s author/illustrator Sandra Boynton.

 

Water Path for a Fish  (France/Spain/Columbia, 2016, 2D Animation, 8:23 minutes)  Directed by Mercedes Marro

During a warm, summer night in Latin America, Oscar awakes to see a little goldfish gasping for air out in the courtyard fountain. Will he be able to save him when the streets fill with people running for water?
