In honor of Black History Month, the Eureka Lodge #36 has collaborated with the Archive of Black History and Culture to curate an exhibit highlighting the history of the lodge. Materials featured in the exhibit include the original handwritten minutes from the first meeting, which took place on May 8th, 1879. The Eureka Lodge #36 exhibit will also include an early Bible used by members of the Lodge that was published in 1892. Additional artifacts included in the exhibit such as programs, pamphlets and photos are from the Lodge’s archive and are on loan to the library. The Eureka Lodge #36 is a Prince Hall Masonic Lodge located in Rochester, New York, founded on May 8th, 1879. Today, the lodge continues to support its members and the broader community through education, stewardship, and support of its long-standing Masonic traditions of Brotherly Love, Relief and Truth.
The Prince Hall Masonic Lodge is a charitable organization dedicated to self-improvement, community service, family, and honoring the Grand Architect of the Universe. The charter for full operation of the Lodge was granted on December 3rd, 1879, and their first meeting was held under dispensation in the historic Wilder Building downtown. The lodge is currently led by Tracy Williams, 2026 Worshipful Master Eureka Lodge #36 MW Darren M. Morton, Ed. D., Grand Master Prince Hall Masons State of New York.
