CFFL is an organization created by friends and Family of Carolina Dehond to raise funds for her fight against a very rare type of cancer; Clear cell Sarcoma

Carolina (Contreras) DeHond, an incredible wife, great mom, loving daughter, sister and a caring, generous friend was diagnosed with an extremely rare and dangerous cancer (Clear Cell Sarcoma) in April of 2008. A great surgical team from Strong Memorial Hospital (Rochester, NY) removed the tumor from her
left foot in May 2008.
Clear Cell Sarcoma is a very rare cancer for which there is no cure. There are only about 300 known cases of Clear Cell Sarcoma in the past 40 years. Only about 50% of patients live more than 5 years. Carolina has a 10% chance of seeing her daughters graduate from high school.

Clear Cell Sarcoma has a very high recurrence rate. After Clear Cell Sarcoma spreads, the prognosis is death. This cancer is treated by removing it surgically, as chemo and radiation therapies have not been effective. What this means is
that if the cancer is not fully removed during the initial surgery, the patients prognosis for survival is bad, very bad! This extremely rare cancer has only been diagnosed about 300 times in the past 40 years. Up to this point, there have not been any successful treatment protocols developed to combat the cancer after it spreads.

It's back again! Recently, in October of 2010, doctors found a recurrence of
Clear Cell Sarcoma in her left knee. This is VERY bad news. We do not know where else the cancer may have spread to. But we do know the path she is on has a bleak future.

We need to change that path as soon as possible. The one factorthat has helped patients with Clear Cell Sarcoma is a strong immune system. There are a number of treatments that can strengthen the immune system and hopefully fight the cancer. But these are very expensive and not covered by insurance
plans. Because of this,we are urgently raising funds to offset expenses and provide the resources for Carolina to receive these treatments. The sooner we do it, the greater her chances for survival! We all love her very much, we dont want to lose her!

Your support, whether financial, emotional or otherwise is greatly appreciated and we do promise to use that support in the most effective way possible to help her. Our goal is a cure for Carolina. She will die otherwise. Please help make Carolinas Fight for Life a victory!!
