4-H MIGHTY MONDAY: MICROGREENS & SPROUTS!

Join Monroe County 4-H for Mighty Monday! Our December program will feature growing microgreens and sprouts at home. Youth do not need to be enrolled in 4-H to participate. The program is free and delivered via Zoom.

Is it possible to garden in winter? YES!
Join the Monroe County 4-H team to learn how to grow greens all year long! This hour-long program will teach youth how to grow microgreens and sprouts indoors.
To participate in the activities at home, the following supplies would be needed:
Microgreens:
seeds*
soil
container (old plastic berry clamshells and other recyclables work great)
water
marker for labeling

Sprouts:
seeds*
jar
piece of mesh to cover the jar
band to hold mesh lid (metal or rubber)

*Many types of seeds can be used for each method. Dry beans and legumes (beans & lentils) found at the supermarket can be a great option for sprouts. For microgreens, seeds in the Thebrassica family (beets, swiss chard, sunflower, and basil) work well. Seeds for this activity should be untreated
