The 23rd Rochester Children’s Book Festival, presented by RACWI (Rochester Area Children’s Writers and Illustrators), will take place on Saturday, November 2, 2019, from 10AM to 4PM. The event will be held in the R. Thomas Flynn Campus Center at Monroe Community College, 1000 East Henrietta Road. There is Free Parking in LOT M. This year’s theme is Sharing Books; Sharing Dreams: We fill MCC with thousands of diverse books kids can talk about with the authors who wrote them.

Please help us keep this calendar up to date! If this activity is sold out, canceled, or otherwise needs alteration, email mindy@kidsoutandabout.com so we can update it immediately. If you have a question about the activity itself, please contact the organization administrator listed below.

This family event is free and includes:

-50 authors and illustrators.

-Three venues featuring presentations, workshops and story time, running continuously throughout the day. Volunteer Interpreting services provided by students in the ASL/English Interpretation Program at the National Technical Institute for the Deaf at RIT.

-An arts and crafts room where children can create book related crafts to take home

-Face painting by area college students

-A core of volunteers including students, teachers, librarians and RACWI members to facilitate a great experience for all

-Free Early Vision Screenings by ABVI (Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired). Recognizing the connection between healthy vision and reading, EVS helps to detect vision problems in very young children before it’s too late.

Over 30 Rochester area authors will attend including Newbery Medal Winner, Linda Sue Park; Edgar Award winner, Vivian Vande Velde;  and Children’s Africana Book Award winner, Keely Hutton. In addition, many favorite children’s authors from around the country will be there. They include graphic novelists, Jerry Craft and Raul the Third; picture/chapter book authors Kelly Starling Lyons and Alyssa Capucilli; sports book author Matt Chandler; poets Nikki Grimes and David Harrison; and fantasy novelists Tui Sutherland, Michelle Knudsen, and Bruce Coville, to name just a few. We’ll also be celebrating 50 years of Sesame Street and 40 years of Bunnicula by Rochester author, James Howe.
