Kid-Friendly Rochester Restaurants

A dad in Pittsford suggested we provide a guide to kid-friendly restaurants here in the Rochester area. We thought it was a great idea, so here is a list of places where they'll roll out the welcome mat for your family. You will see that at this time these are mostly chains that advertise themselves as kid-friendly on their web sites. Our plan is gradually to contact all of the non-chain restaurants in the Rochester area to ask them if they should be listed on the page. So please help us!   From a Rochester-area parent: Carmine's Family restaurant has $.99 kids meals any day any time and a great variety from spaghetti to turkey sub to the usual nuggets, it also includes fries or salad or a drink.   Note from reader: The only downside to D&R is that it is close quarters...but they are VERY welcoming to families with children, have INCREDIBLE food for everyone and have a special toy basket for the children to choose things from. The staff and owners/management are so warm and pleasant - they make you feel right at home (which is not always the case when you are eating out with 3 children under the age of 3).

  A reader reports: The service is very fast and pretty friendly. There's plenty to look at, like at Cracker Barrel, and strike up questions and conversations. The food for the grown-ups is a little expensive (about $13.99 per dinner) but the kids meal are only about $4.99. Hard to believe that a kids meal at Dave's and Denny's are the same price. And the food...even if you aren't a huge fan of BBQ, there are plenty of choices that you will like. My son is a chicken fingers kinda guy and I think these are the best chicken fingers, ever. Of course, there's mac and cheese and burgers for the kids who don't want BBQ. The web site has the menu - no prices unfortunately, but you can even decide ahead of time what to order. They have a nice loud atmosphere, so noisy kids affect no one. They have stuff to do and they give you crayons. Check it out - we think it's a GREAT place for kids!

  A reader reports: I went late one evening wth only my 2-year-old and they really catered to us. The owners came to our table multiple times, the waitress was very patient and pleasant with my son, and on the way out the owner gave a toy to my son and two extras for my other two sons that were not with us.
