Who is the world’s second tallest man and how does he ride a bike or go shopping? What household objects do the miniature people in the classic book The Borrowers repurpose to create lives similar to our own? How does one get from the world of everyday life into a fantastical world— is it through a magic wardrobe, like in The Chronicles of Narnia? How might distant planets see the earth and tell a story about its inhabitants? Join us for an exploration of surprising worlds, big and small! Learn new perspectives from which to build in-depth worlds in your creative writing. Together we will investigate classic tales of unconventional peoples and how stories are told. Every student will create the building blocks for a fictional world, which could include a map, “rules” for the world, characters, illustrations, and the beginnings of stories. We’ll share our creations with family and friends on Friday!
