Why Kids Need Summer Camp
Whether it’s a few hours a day or a week away, camp is a great experience enjoyed by over 11 million children and adults each year. For parents, the decision to send a child to summer camp can raise a number of questions. With over 160 years of experience, the YMCA of Greater Rochester has five reasons why summer camp will give your child their best summer ever.
Top 5 Reasons Kids Should Go to Summer Camp:
#1 They make lifelong friends.
On the first day of camp, everyone is new. Without common ties such as school or sports, each camper has the opportunity to meet new people and make unique friends.
#2 They become independent.
Children make decisions on their own, make new friends, and choose activities and classes that allow them to explore their individual interests on their own.
#3 They learn new things.
Archery, swimming, zip lining, sailing - there are so many new things to try!
Where else can you try so much in such a short amount of time?
#4 They feel a sense of belonging.
Our highly-trained counselors and staff provide an inclusive environment full of camp spirit and infectious fun. They know how to make even the shyest camper feel at home.
#5 They ditch the screens.
There are no televisions, cell phones, or video games allowed at camp. This screen-free environment is the perfect time for children to learn about nature, one another, and themselves.
The YMCA of Greater Rochester has nine summer Day Camps and two overnight summer camps located throughout the Greater Rochester area. Each camp offers a unique, fun experience that will foster friendships and individual growth. Overnight summer camps offer a residential camping experience, full of adventure, fun and friendships, that is sure to build memories for a lifetime.
