About the play:
One dark and dreary night, a noble, mighty and wealthy Lord stumbles upon a destitute neer-do-well in the city streets. Troubled for the man, but also filled with mischief, the nobleman brings the man home and instructs his servants to treat the stranger as if he were their master. To compliment the ruse, the servants and a troupe of actors present a series of tales for the amusement of the “Lord” and his “Lady”.
About the production:
“Tales from Shakespeare” weaves an original tale from sources throughout the Shakespeare canon. Material has been culled from plays such as “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”, “Hamlet”, “Love’s Labours Lost” and numerous other works. Subplots and “plays-within-plays” are reworked and presented in a new and different light, while famous soliloquies pop up in unexpected places. The play runs about an hour in length.
About the Company:
ShakeCo: The Shakespeare Company of Greater Rochester is a locally based small-scale production company devoted primarily to the performance of Shakespeare’s works throughout the Greater Rochester area. The Company put on it’s first production, “Hamlet, Prince of Denmark”, in August of 2000 and produced nine shows over the next five years. Returning from an extended hiatus with 2010’s production of “R.U.R. (Rossum’s Universal Robots)”, the “Shakespeare for Young Audiences” program was re-launched later that year with “Young Prince Hal”. “Tales from Shakespeare” marks ShakeCo’s third such production.
