Students will work together to determine what makes a fairytale a fairytale. We will then explore a variety of traditional and newer tales, looking at familiar and unfamiliar characters. We’ll see how some authors have changed classic fairytales into new and exciting stories. We will discuss viewpoints and motivations of characters. Then, we’ll write our own modern fairy tales, including different sets of characters, new settings, or a changed conflict or resolution. At the end of our week students will publish and illustrate their new “fractured fairy tales” for others to enjoy.Instructor: Lindsey Buck
