Looking for fun water activities? SBJSA has a program for you!

We currently have over 70 watercrafts and one of the finest sailing centers in the area. We now offer three season programming which allows our facilities, waterfront and watercraft to reach a much larger population and we are proud to share our expertise and location to a wider audience. We provide general sailing instruction for children from ages 8-18, including travel racing teams and we also host a local Rochester College sailing team for their spring and fall practice seasons.

As of 2018 we are proud to announce we are now recognized as an Accredited Community Sailing Center by US Sailing!

The core instructional program we offer at SBJSA is our youth sailing camp, which is conducted over a 7-week timeframe from approximately the 3rd week of June to mid-August. This seven-week period is comprised of the following camp sessions available to youth, ages 8-18:

  1. 1-week (5 days), ½ day (9:30 -12:00pm) “Opti-Boomers”. (Ages 8 – 10)
  2. 2-week (10 days), all day (9:30am- 4:00pm) Learn-to-Sail (LTS) and Learn-to-Race (LTR) sessions.
  3. 3-week (17 days) Travel Race Team sessions (9:30 to 4:00pm or later depending on travel Regatta Locations and 1 weekend Regatta). Parent Involvement Necessary.
  4. 2-day “Intro to Sailing” courses for area Town Recreation Program students, Boy or Girl Scout groups and/or other organized groups of children, given in the final 1-week of camp in mid-August. (9:30am to 4:00pm)

Our sailing curriculum is designed to provide all levels of instruction from beginner to advanced. The summer camp activities and adventure program provide a great summer experience. Each camper spends most of their time on the water learning how to sail. Days will be split between land classes and water activities. Campers will learn parts of the boat, sail trim, steering, capsize recovery procedures, and more, all with a focus on fun and safety.  Campers will also learn instruction in the care and use of Canoes, Stand-Up Paddle boards, and Kayaks.
