Please join us on June 16th @ SBJSA for our Annual Open House between 11 am to 3 pm.
Members from our staff and program volunteers will be available to answer questions regarding our Learn to Sail/Learn to Race 2-week camp, Our Travel Race Team - 3 week racing camp and the Two-day Introduction to Sailing and Water activities program.
The event includes refreshments, food, demo sails (weather permitting) and tours around SBJSA.
The core instructional program we offer at SBJSA is our youth sailing camp, which is conducted over a 7-week timeframe from approximately the 3rd week of June to mid-August. This seven-week period is comprised of the following camp sessions available to youth, ages 8-18:
- 1-week (5 days), ½ day (9:30 -12:00pm) “Opti-Boomers”. (Ages 8 – 10)
- 2-week (10 days), all day (9:30am- 4:00pm) Learn-to-Sail (LTS) and Learn-to-Race (LTR) sessions.
- 3-week (17 days) Travel Race Team sessions (9:30 to 4:00pm or later depending on travel Regatta Locations and 1 weekend Regatta). Parent Involvement Necessary.
- 2-day “Intro to Sailing” courses for area Town Recreation Program students, Boy or Girl Scout groups and/or other organized groups of children, given in the final 1-week of camp in mid-August. (9:30am to 4:00pm)
Our sailing curriculum is designed to provide all levels of instruction from beginner to advanced. The summer camp activities and adventure program provide a great summer experience. Each camper spends most of their time on the water learning how to sail. Days will be split between land classes and water activities. Campers will learn parts of the boat, sail trim, steering, capsize recovery procedures, and more, all with a focus on fun and safety. Campers will also learn instruction in the care and use of Canoes, Stand-Up Paddle boards, and Kayaks.
