About the play:
“Tartuffe” tells the story of the rich Orgon, who dreams of a pious life, and the duplicitous Tartuffe, who ingratiates himself into Orgon’s home. When Tartuffe’s attempts to marry his way into the family disrupt the plans of Orgon’s son and daughter, the family rallies around to oust the hypocrite.
About the production:
“Tartuffe, the Imposter!”, like all ShakeCo productions for young audiences, was crafted with an eye towards ease of understanding. These productions are not “children’s theater”. They do not “talk down” to the audience, resulting in productions equally engaging for novice and experienced viewers alike.
About the Company:
ShakeCo: The Shakespeare Company of Greater Rochester is a locally based small-scale production company devoted primarily to the performance of Shakespeare’s works throughout the Greater Rochester area. The Company put on it’s first production, “Hamlet, Prince of Denmark”, in August of 2000 and produced nine shows over the next five years. Returning from an extended hiatus with 2010’s production of “R.U.R. (Rossum’s Universal Robots)”, ShakeCo has become a staple at MuCCC ever since, producing several productions there every year.
