This camp introduces your son or daughter to small boat sailing. Beginners will learn the parts of a boat, how to rig a boat, how to leave from and return to the dock, how to right a capsized boat, how to read the wind, and how to properly trim sails and steer a boat, among other skills. Skills for advanced sailors may include advanced sail trim and boat handling, advanced understanding of the wind, race skills, sailing in heavier winds, and sailing more advanced boats. Most importantly, though, we ensure your kids have fun and stay safe.
Classes are taught using Sunfish and Optimist sailboats, and advanced sailors may also use 420's, including spinnakers. Each day includes some land- as well as water-based activities, with the mix depending on the weather. Parents are invited on Friday afternoons to come watch their kids show off their new skills.
Optional half-day sessions are available for 7- and 8-year-olds, and we are planning a 3-day family class during 4th of July week. Full details are availble at sailcyc.com under "Lessons."
