At EarthWorks, our mission is to improve the quality of life for residents of the Greater Rochester area through educational and mentoring programs that teach valuable life skills and social responsibility, while at the same time building healthy, lasting bonds between land and community.

Three hundred years ago, upstate New York was much wilder: no roads or tap water, no electricity or fuel, no grocery stores, pharmacies or hospitals. Could you have survived? Kids will discover how at Runnin’ Wild is summer where the ecologists at EarthWorks provide a safe an interactive way to experience the wild.

Campers will gain skills in:

  • Fire Building (with friction)

  • Outdoor Cooking & Safety

  • Survival Shelter Building

  • Wild Sourcing of Food & Medicine

  • Knife safety

  • And Wildcrafting!

Based on “Leave No Trace” ethics, our activities give children the confidence to explore the outdoors in a safe and meaningful way. Forest guides at Runnin’ Wild teach campers to think independently before reacting and make smart choices while being challenged.

Campers may also learn:

  • Patience

  • Respect

  • Resilience

  • And Teamwork

This program is open to the public and runs in partnership with Allendale Columbia School for campers 8-15 years old.
