Summer Fun Camps at the RMSC: July 13- July 17
Jr. Scientists
Ages 2-3 (Parent with Child)
Grab your goggles and lab coats as you play, learn, create and explore all things science. Jr. scientists discover senses, colors and light, chemical reactions, as well as experiment with magnets as they get a hands-on introduction to science!

High Flying Physics
Ages 3-4
Explore the wonders of flight and forces that make things go. Build a birdhouse and bird feeder to keep our high flying friends happy. Also, make paper airplanes, defy gravity, visit the Museums Raceways exhibit and learn all about the physical forces around us.

Animal ABC’s
Ages 4-5
It’s animals from A to Z! Learn how animals eat, where they live, how they behave and how they defend themselves. Explore the wonders of the animal kingdom as you measure up against the tallest and the smallest animals. Compare mammals and reptiles, make a bird feeder, and meet some of the animal friends that call the RMSC home.

Gizmos & Gadgets
Ages 6-7
Gear up for fun! Learn about and create simple machines such as wheels, ramps, levers, screws and pulleys. Go on a machine hunt and take apart household appliances to discover what simple machines have inside. Are they really that simple? Dissect the science inside gizmos and gadgets to find out!

Ages 5-7 (Almost Camp)
Discover what it takes to get from here to there. Investigate the world of cars, rockets, trains, planes and boats. Design your own speedy motion machines! Create gliders and planes. Build and launch rockets. Learn about engines, force and what gets our bodies moving.

Artist’s Lab
Ages 6-8
Are you a modern artist or an impressionist? A photographer, sculptor, or do you like drawing? Reveal the world of science behind famous masterpieces as you learn about art and explore your own artistic style! Make your own paint, paper, natural dyes, and sculptures while you explore the science of color, light, perspective, symmetry and your own sense of sight. Enjoy a field trip to ARTISANworks!

Ages 6-8
What could you dig up in your backyard? Experience the life of a geologist. Check out our Mastodon skeleton! Learn to identify rocks, how fossils are made, and the difference between crystals and minerals as you discover one of the world’s richest geological areas—our own backyard! Tour the RMSC’s extensive rock and fossil collections and find your own in a hands-on field trip to Penn Dixie fossil site.

Ages 6-8
Learn to program a robot to obey your every command! Working within the FIRST U.S. Model of Teamwork, you and your partner compete with other teams to complete robot challenges. Get ready for new challenges, build better ‘bots, and meet local professionals in the robotics field.

VEX Robotics
Ages 9-11
Build complex robots, learn about gear ratios and overcome team challenges as you step up to VEX Robotics! Working with updated equipment, experiment through the design process as you build, test and re-test to prep your teams ‘bot for the demonstration on Friday. Note: Knowledge of VEX Robotics and NXT Robotics are helpful, though not necessary.

Explore Rochester
Ages 9-11
A new spin on our old camp classic, “Boat, Bike, Hike!” Explore our beautiful Flower City through this series of activities and off-campus field trips. Discover Rochester’s unique outdoor ecology as you navigate waterways by kayak, pedal alongside an engineering marvel on the towpaths of the Erie Canal, and blaze a new trail through the forests at the Cumming Nature Center.

CSI: SCIENCE
Ages 9-11
Crime scene investigations involve lots of science and a sharp mind! Can you help us solve this CSI: SCIENCE case here at the RMSC? When it comes to this cold case you’ll have to think like an agent, crack codes, collect clues, question witnesses, brush for fingerprints, test blood samples, and examine bones.
Please note: this camp may discuss real life issues of crime and death.

2015 is the International Year of Light. Celebrate with us this week as we explore how Rochester is famous for its role in the industry and its research with light and optics!
