RAIHN Car City 2017
*The event has already taken place on this date: Sun, 05/07/2017
Please help us keep this calendar up to date! If this activity is sold out, canceled, or otherwise needs alteration, email mindy@kidsoutandabout.com so we can update it immediately. If you have a question about the activity itself, please contact the organization administrator listed below.
Car City gives the community an opportunity to learn about family homelessness in a meaningful, hands-on way by sleeping overnight in their cars. Similar to the idea of a walk-a-thon, participants in Car City raise a registration fee plus pledges to benefit the Rochester Area Interfaith Hospitality Network (RAIHN). "Virtual" participants (raise funds and attend the event, but sleep at home) are also welcome!
This year we will be joined by a panel of RAIHN graduates who will share their experiences, and local photojournalist Michele Ashlee who will share her thoughts and photography of poverty in Rochester. In addition to dinner, a car decorating contest, a sundae bar, photo booth, games, and other activities, there will once again be Bedtime Yoga and CAR-aoke, karaoke singing to your favorite songs about cars!
Groups, families and individuals are encouraged to register and participate in the evening’s events. Visit www.raihn.org to make a pledge, create or join a team, and to create your own fundraising page. Registration is $30 for adults and $15 for youth ages 12-18. Raise a minimum of $50 and receive a Car City T-shirt!
The Rochester Area Interfaith Hospitality Network (RAIHN) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit that provides shelter, meals, counseling, support and assistance in securing safe, affordable housing for families.
