Penfield Symphony Orchestra’s third concert of its 61st Season, Operatic Gems,”will take place onFebruary 13th, 2017, at 7:30PM, featuring famous operatic excerpts with their wonderful, memorable melodies.  Our outstanding soprano soloist will be Keely Futterer, a voice not to be missed, whom “Opera News” described as “a standout … high-quality lyric soprano of admirable accuracy and keen verbal nuance.”  The concert includes items from Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro, Rossini’s The Barber of Seville, and the haunting “Song of the Moon” from Rusalka by Dvořák.  Puccini’s La Bohème and Wagner’s Tristan und Isolde are also represented, as is the challenging Overture to La forza del destino by Verdi.  The concert concludes with the unforgettable melodies from Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess.

The performance will be held at Penfield High School Auditorium, 25 High School Drive, Penfield, NY 14526. The Penfield Symphony Orchestra, with approximately ninety musicians, has been performing in the Greater Rochester area for the last sixty years, and under the direction of Dr. David Harman for the last sixteen years, with the goal of providing “live symphonic music close to home.”

“Penfield Symphony concerts
have a very family friendly atmosphere. It is especially nice because we see so many people we know. But, most important is the music. The orchestra is very, very good and it is wonderful having such great music right here in Penfield." - Sharon Nazarian

"The concert was a spectacular holiday treat. I was proud to be a Penfield resident and thrilled that the Penfield High School Chorale students had the opportunity to sing with professionals! How wonderful that so many talented musicians volunteer their time to provide this high-level music experience right here in our community!"- Camille Rutan

“Thank you for another wonderful season for local residents. I am so grateful to David Harman and all the musicians who play with such joy and enthusiasm. The programming offers variety including classic and contemporary with surprises now and then. Thank you to everyone who makes all this happen." - Jean Cheney
