A Mentor and Protege Together: Mark Pawlak and Sejal Shah

The Friends and Foundation of the Rochester Public Library and Writers & Books invite the public to a poetry reading, book signing, and wine reception with two nationally-known poets.

The Friends and Foundation of the Rochester Public Library (FFRPL) and Writers & Books invite the public to a poetry reading, book signing and wine reception with two nationally-known poets, Mark Pawlak and Sejal Shah. Books will be available to purchase at the event.


About the Poets
Mark Pawlak is the author of nine poetry collections and the
editor of six anthologies. His most recent book is Reconnaissance: New and Selected Poems and Poetic Journals 2005 – 2015, (Hanging Loose Press, 2016). Other books include Natural Histories, (Cervena Barva Press, 2015) and Go to the Pine: Quoddy Journals 2005 – 2010 (Plein Air Editions/Bootstrap Press, 2012). His poems have appeared widely in such anthologies as The Best American Poetry and Blood to Remember: American Poets on the Holocaust; and in many literary magazines, including New American Writing, Mother Jones, and more. He teaches mathematics at the University of Massachusetts Boston, where he is Director of Academic Support Programs. He lives in Cambridge.


Sejal Shah’s writing has been nominated for Best American Essays and the Pushcart Prize. Her lyric essays and short stories appear in Brevity; Conjunctions; The Literary Review; and The Margins. Her poems, stories, and essays have appeared or are forthcoming in six anthologies including Bullseye: Stories and Poems by Outstanding High School Writers (Hanging Loose Press),Under Her Skin: How Girls Experience Race in America (Seal Press) and Ghazals for Foley (Hinchas Press). The recipient of artist residencies from Blue Mountain Center, the Millay Colony for the Arts, and New York University, she has also been awarded fellowships from the Kenyon Review Writers Workshop, Kundiman, and the Ragdale Foundation.
