All Rochester-area middle and high school boys and girls are welcome to participate in Pittsford Crew's Learn to Row and Learn to Scull programs

LTR Level 1
Learn to Row is open to all middle school and high school students who want to learn about the sport of rowing. During the two-week session, adolescents who are new to sweep rowing (one oar per rower) learn safety procedures and rowing techniques by starting in the Pittsford Indoor Rowing Center (PIRC). This unique facility offers a safe environment in which they can quickly learn the basic techniques, and then quickly progress to rowing on the canal.

LTR Level 2
Athletes who participated in Level 1 but have not continued in a competitive program can enroll in a Learn to Row Level 2 session. In Level 2, rowing skills are expanded with a focus on the more technical aspects of rowing.

There are AM and PM offerings for each of the three two-week-long sessions offered from late June through July. All classes are held at the Pittsford Crew rowing facility.

LTS Level 1

This is an introduction to the basics of sculling (two oars per rower). In Level 1, new scullers become familiar with body motions and the proper technique of sculling/rowing. Boat types and boat parts are learned in addition to water safety. New scullers  progress—at a safe and comfortable speed—from larger boats to smaller sculling boats.

LTS Level 2
With coach approval, Level 1 scullers can continue with our Level 2 program. This program is for scullers who have become skilled and comfortable enough to manage a single scull with confidence. In Level 2, technique is further developed along with fitness.

Please note that Pittsford Crew's goal is safety first, followed by fostering a new love for rowing. Learn to Scull allows rowers to progress at a speed that is comfortable and enjoyable to them. Some new rowers may need to repeat Level 1 to make that experience enjoyable.

Sessions begin in June and continue at two-week intervals through July. Classes start indoors at the Pittsford Indoor Rowing Center. There, beginners can more easily learn the basics of the stroke, which accelerates the learning process in a safe environment. The classes then move outdoors to the canal. All classes are held at the Pittsford Crew rowing facility.
