Hochstein Youth Symphony Orchestra Fall Concert

The program includes Edvard Grieg’s charming Norwegian Dances; Dances in the Canebrakes by Florence Price, with rhythms derived from stage and ballroom dances; selections from La Boutique Fantasque (The Fantastic Toyshop), vibrant music originally written as piano pieces by Gioachino Rossini, but orchestrated and reimagined as a ballet by Ottorino Respighi; and Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov’s celebratory Russian Easter Overture.

Please note that masks will be required at Hochstein for all persons age 2 and older, regardless of vaccination status. Distancing is encouraged.
The 81-member HYSO is a full orchestra for advanced strings, brass, woodwinds, and percussion students in grades 7–12 from the greater Rochester region. Directed by Casey Springstead, the HYSO presents three concerts per year along with periodic international tours including a 2016 tour of Austria and Germany, a 2018 tour of Portugal and Spain, and the upcoming tour of Germany and the Czech Republic, rescheduled from 2020.
