What is History on Tap?
This special after-hours program allows visitors the opportunity to walk the museum grounds and enjoy a social event with friends in the atmosphere of the Victorian era of the village.
Live music will be featured throughout the evening at the Victorian Pavilion Restaurant - an open-air eatery situated in the heart of the museum's gaslight district. Festival foods and sandwiches will be available for purchase, as well as a variety of NYS wines and the museum's own ales.
This event is for persons ages 21 and over; IDs will be checked at the admissions gate. Purchase ahead online and save $2! Please be aware that if you purchase online you will not receive tickets in the mail. Please print your receipt to present at admissions for entry. Event admission is $10 pre-sale online ($8 for members) or $12 at the door ($10 for members). Cash bar available throughout the evening. Doors open at 5pm. FREE parking available for all visitors.
Select Historic Buildings Open
During the evening, a few historic spaces will be open for tours. Staff will escort visitors into areas that may not be open to the public during regular hours. Ever wanted to walk to the top of the Hyde (Octagon) House? Here's your chance! Other normally off-limit activities include:
- Climb to the top of the Hamilton House and peer out the windows down to the street below
- Make a visit to the carriage barn in the gaslight district
- Take a tour of the museum's 19th-century working brewery
Victorian-Era Carnival Atmosphere
The Pavilion Restaurant, decorated in twinkle lights and serving scrumptuous foods and beverages, will be site of a late 19th-century carnival with a select number of featured performances and hands-on activities offered by the museum's costumed villagers. Join in the fun with:
- Games and contests from the 1800s including stilt walking, hoop and stick, and a game of graces
- Have your fortune read to you and your friends by sitting with the village fortune teller
- Grab a beverage and watch the slack rope performance
- Visit the phrenology tent and learn how to do a reading on your friends and family by examining the shape of their skull in order to reveal their personality traits
