The true story of British astrophysicist Sir Arthur Eddington, a conscientious objector during WWI, whose 1919 expedition to photograph a solar eclipse in Africa popularized Einstein’s theory of relativity.

About the play:
Eclipse dramatizes the true story of British astrophysicist Sir Arthur Eddington, a conscientious objector during WWI, whose 1919 expedition to photograph a solar eclipse in Africa popularized Einstein’s theory of relativity. Dealing with topics such as science, religion, time, perception, war, love, and duty, this classic story focuses on a mysterious figure whose compelling struggles continue to resonate.

About the production:
Eclipse was presented as a staged reading on November 17, 2012. This production marks its fully-staged debut. The historic setting and story is presented through music, sounds and projected imagery,

About the Company:

ShakeCo: The Shakespeare Company of Greater Rochester is a locally based, small-scale production company devoted primarily to the performance of Shakespeare’s works throughout the Greater Rochester area. The Company put on its first production, Hamlet, Prince of Denmark, in August of 2000 and has produced over twenty-five shows since. ShakeCo began performing at the MuCCC in 2010 and presents an annual "Young Audiences" show each Christmas season. Eclipse marks ShakeCo's first full production since 'Tis Pity She's a Whore in 2013.
