Several events celebrate 100% anniversary of woman's suffrage in NYS on July 19 in Fairport

Please help us keep this calendar up to date! If this activity is sold out, canceled, or otherwise needs alteration, email mindy@kidsoutandabout.com so we can update it immediately. If you have a question about the activity itself, please contact the organization administrator listed below.

VoteTilla, sponsored by the Susan B. Anthony House and Museum, will celebrate the 100th anniversary of women gaining the right to vote in New York State. Five canal boats will set out from Seneca Falls and travel via the Erie Canal to Rochester stopping at many towns and villages along the way.

On July 19 at 4:30 pm these boats will stop and overnight in Fairport. A welcoming crew will greet them and invite them to attend several locally-sponsored events in the village. The first will be a re-enactment of a 1914 debate on Women’s Suffrage by the Fairport Historical Club at 5:30 pm in the village gazebo at Kennelly Park. (In the event of inclement weather, the debate will be held in the Fairport Public Library community room, but REGISTRATION is REQUIRED and can be made by visiting  www.fairportlibrary.org or by calling the library directly at 585-223-9091.)

The second event, sponsored by the Perinton Historical Society and the Fairport Public Library, will be a portrayal of Susan B. Anthony by local author Jeanne Gehret at 7:00 pm in the Fairport Public Library community room. REGISTRATION is REQUIRED for this event. (See previous paragraph for details.)

Finally, the Perinton Historical Society will host an Open House at the Fairport Museum (18 Perrin St.) from 7-9 pm to provide an opportunity to meet some of the travelers from the VoteTilla boats and showcase special items, including 3 canal boat horns and pro- and anti-women’s suffrage flyers.

The public is invited to attend all these Fairport events and celebrate the centennial of women’s suffrage in New York State. For information on all of these programs, visit:   www.perintonhistoricalsociety.org.
