Children's Clay Classes: Mud Muffins, Clay Crazy, and Taming the Wild Lump of Clay
Ages4-5 years 6-8 years 9-12 years Teenagers
Mud Muffins (age 3-5) This class is pure fun: getting messy, making whatever little hands can handle, understanding colors, learning to roll, flatten and attach, working together on simple projects. Saturdays 9:30-10:15 am.
Clay Crazy (age 6-8) This class will make room for those still learning to shape clay and those with more control and interest in sculpture. Starting with random exploration, then adding control with texture, learning techniques for cutting and shaping, children are introduced to basic sculpting. Project suggestions include: make yourself in clay; make everyone in your family (with lots of room to define 'family') or friends; make a dream vehicle; what does 'work' look like?, etc. We'll go outside for inspiration. Saturdays 10:30-11:30 am.
Taming the Wild Lump of Clay (age 8-12) Students will start with sketches, experiment with texture and construction tools, and move from random forms to more exact sculptures. From sketch to sculpture, students will explore the process of bringing their ideas to form and life through the wonderful medium of clay. If they are ready, we'll begin to make armatures or flexible joints, leading perhaps to making puppets! Saturdays 11:45-12:45 pm.
