2017 Turtle Hill Folk Festival

Golden Link Folk Singing Society presents our 46th annual Turtle Hill Folk Festival September 8, 9, 10. This years festival also includes special children's activities.

Enjoy a great weekend of folk music at the 46th Annual Turtle Hill Folk Festival, presented by the Golden Link Folk Singing Society at the Rotary Sunshine Campus, 809 Five Points Rd., in Rush, NY on September 8, 9, and 10, 2017. The Festival will feature evening concerts by Bob Zentz, The Cadleys, Low Lily, Stuart Fuchs, and Brother Sun. Festival tickets are available at http://www.goldenlink.org/festival, with discounts for Golden Link members.

At Turtle Hill, the audience not only gets to see these performers on stage, but also interact with them during workshops and small presentations during the day on Saturday and Sunday, with many informal opportunities to sing and play music together. Rough camping is included with the ticket price; for a small fee, you can reserve a bed in the rustic, heated bunkhouses.

New this year is “NERFA presents Young Folk,” a showcase of young musicians from the @Northeast Regional Folk Alliance (NERFA), on Saturday night. Performers still to be announced.

Festival Site, Camping, Children’s Activities, and Food: Turtle Hill will be held at the Rotary Sunshine Campus, 809 Five Points Road, Rush, NY, a short drive south of Rochester. Rough camping (tents or RVs; no hook-ups) is included with the ticket price. For a small fee, you can reserve a bunkhouse bed. Showers are available for campers. Vendors will provide food, including vegetarian dishes. There will be other vendors as well. Nature trails, two playgrounds, and mini-golf on site. All facilities are wheelchair accessible. Attendees are welcome to bring their children and grandchildren to the festival. Admission for children 12 and under is free. There will be activities designed specifically for children, including a unique performance opportunity as part of the Saturday night concert.
Childrens Activities include:

Saturday - 12-5 Fun activities like crafts, kick ball, miniature golf, etc. at the Campfire Circle.

3pm - Our Festival theme is Many Voices, One Song! The children are invited to learn the song during this workshop and then they are encouraged to perform the song to open the Saturday night concert. (Campfire circle)

4pm - Homemade Music –Bob Zentz is bringing his “Ramblin’ Conrad’s Music Tent” for all to enjoy. Bob will guide the children (and parents) through a hands-on musical experience using his vast knowledge of songs and collection of instruments. (Ramblin’ Conrad’s Tent)

5pm – Rehearsal for the theme song. Children will be shown the main stage and how they will get to it during the performance. A parent must be with them at all times. (Main Stage)

6:45pm – Children will gather in the main gate lobby and prepare to sing the opening song at 7pm. (Main Gate)

There will also be family-oriented dance demonstrations with participation for adults and children, in the Recreation Hall:
1pm - English Country Dance
2pm - Community (family) Dance
3pm - International Dance
4pm - Waltz workshop
