“A Jane Austen Christmas: Yuletide Traditions During the Regency Era” will be the topic for the Perinton Historical Society’s holiday program on Tuesday, December 12 at 7:00 pm at the Fairport Museum (18 Perrin Street). Did Queen Victoria invent the Christmas tree? Is "Christmas creep" just a modern phenomenon? Do the "Twelve Days of Christmas" come before or after the holiday? All these questions will be answered and more will be answered by guest speaker Lisa Brown, a Life Member of the Jane Austen Society of North America who serves as JASNA’s Regional Coordinator for the Central & Western NY Region. She is president of the Country Dancers of Rochester and director of the Meryton Assembly Dancers, a performance group that demonstrates English Country Dancing. The proprietress of Regency Rentals, a Regency-era costume rental business, Brown uses her costume collection to give fashion shows at libraries, colleges and historic sites and regularly gives presentations on historical topics related to the Regency era. This event is free and open to the public. Attendees are invited to bring a dessert to share. More information at: www.perintonhistoricalsociety.org. NOTE: Final bidding on all silent auction items in “Yuletide Traditions,” PHS’ annual fundraiser to support its educational programs, museum exhibits and acquisitions, will be open from 6:00 pm and end promptly at 7:00 pm. Winners will be announced following the 7:00 pm presentation.
